The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) mentioned that the dress code for CA students is mandatory to maintain discipline.  Preparing for a job interview is more than just creating a strong resume and practising answers. The way you present yourself is very important in making a positive first impression. Following the prescribed dress code can increase confidence and reflect professionalism in students and freshers from Chartered Accountancy who appear for interviews, particularly those conducted under the auspices of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).

The code of conduct declared by the department of the institute has been notified to CA students to be seen during the pursuing of the Chartered Accountancy Course. The code of conduct is applied to all the students who pursue the Chartered Accountancy Course and along with the students who have finished practical training.

This blog illustrates the ICAI dress code for job interviews, which covers proper clothing for men and women, footwear choices, accessories, personal hygiene, and makeup. Your confidence shall be enhanced by following the appropriate dress code in your interview, making your first impression effective. 

ICAI has asked the students that while going through the article, training will stick to the formal dress code according to the local culture and tradition. 

This Dress Code for the male students is full sleeves shirts and trousers, and for the female Students, Sarees/ Salwar Kurta/Suit is mandatory to wear. 

Before appearing in front of the appellate authority, they might also wear a suit and tie.

During the running of the orientation courses, Management and Communication Skills (MCS) course, Information Technology, Advanced Course, the students are urged to maintain discipline and decorum separate from owning the dress code.

ICAI Dress Code for Job Interviews

The ICAI dress code highlights formal, neat, and conservative attire. The objective is to forecast a professional image that matches the corporate world you desire to join. The same code is applicable to both in-person and online interviews, including campus placements, where dressing as per the code is suggested even if the interview is virtual.

The dress code can be classified into four categories:

All candidates must adhere to the following dress code guidelines to maintain professionalism and uniformity during the Campus Placement Program-

1. General Requirement:

All candidates need to be formally dressed at the time of interviews, group discussions, and any other interactions (online or offline) with recruiters or ICAI officials.

2. For Male Candidates:

• Formal full-sleeve shirt (light, plain shades preferred) and formal trousers

• Tie is mandatory

• Formal leather shoes (polished) with socks

• Clean-shaven or neatly groomed facial hair

• Blazer (optional, but encouraged for physical interviews or cold weather)

3. For Female Candidates:

• Saree or formal salwar-kameez or formal western attire (shirt and trousers)

• Formal shoes or closed footwear (heels optional)

• Minimal jewellery and makeup

• Hair should be neatly tied or combed

4. Not Permitted:

• Casual wear (jeans, T-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts)

• Sports shoes, sandals, or slippers

• Excessive accessories or flashy colours

• Strong perfumes or colognes

• Improper or revealing clothing

5. Online Interviews (if applicable):

• The same dress code applies to virtual interviews.

• You need to ensure that your background is neat and your appearance is professional on camera.

• Advance testing of the internet and device setup.
