This quote catches the spirit of continuous growth, reminding us that limits are often temporary stages of stability. From its introduction, the dedication of our forefathers places the strong ethical and professional foundation we proudly keep today. A plateau shows ease, but the true progress starts when we rise beyond it. The same mindset of reinvention describes our profession and makes our position stronger as a premier global accounting body. ICAI, with 185 branches, 5 Regional Councils, 54 Chapters, and 31 Representative Offices, continues to expand its global footprint and vision of collaborative growth.
As a founding member of IFAC, CAPA, and SAFA, and an active participant in IVSC, CAW, XBRL International, Emerging Economies Group, the Edinburgh Group, and AOSSG, ICAI leads with integrity, innovation, and global influence. India’s rise as a major hub for financial services, with over 1,700 Global Capability Centres employing 1.9 million professionals, has boosted the demand for globally competent talent. With stringent training and strategic acumen, Chartered Accountants are well-positioned to lead this transformation.
The convergence of global reporting standards, artificial intelligence (AI), sustainability, and emerging technologies has heightened the demand for adaptive, future-ready professionals. ICAI is actively bridging this competency gap through industry engagement and lifelong learning. With the recent implementation of AI Governance Guidelines and Data Protection and Digital Privacy (DPDP) Rules, India is establishing strong frameworks for ethical, transparent, and secure digital practices. ICAI is dedicated to equipping Chartered Accountants with the skills needed to ensure responsible AI deployment, robust data governance, and enhanced trust in digital systems.
Dear Fellow Professionals,
There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there – you must go beyond them”. – Bruce Lee
ICAI, with strategic global alliances, makes reporting frameworks stronger and builds capacity across the world. As India is proceeding toward a $10 trillion economy, the accounting profession stands at the fulcrum of regulatory reform, ethical leadership, and national progress, navigated by the collaborative effort and relentless determination of its members.
In the previous month, various initiatives were opted for by ICAI, which are mentioned-
Let’s look at some of the noteworthy changes that have affected the profession:
Global expansion and alliances: ICAI maintains 185 branches in India and 31 representative offices abroad.
Strengthening Outreach through New Branches:
The expansion of ICAI branches shows its commitment to growth, inclusivity, and broader outreach, allowing effective support to members, students, and society. Recently, the Council has approved the setting up of 2 New Branches of ICAI: at Morbi District (Gujarat) Branch of WIRC of ICAI and the Bhiwadi city (Rajasthan) of CIRC of ICAI, respectively. Additionally, the Council has also approved the name change of “Ahmednagar” Branch to “Ahilyanagar” Branch of WIRC of ICAI. ICAI’s network has grown to 185 branches with these additions.
IFAC Council Meeting:
As a founding member of global organizations such as the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA), and the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA), ICAI is dedicated to strengthening its global connections.
AI-readiness & responsible adoption:
ICAI prepares to motivate its members to adopt AI tools for auditing, compliance, and data analysis. These tools are intended to support, not replace, human judgment, ultimately enhancing efficiency and strategic work.
Emphasis on data privacy and compliance:
ICAI, with the current implementation of the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025, is aligning its AI adoption strategy with national guidelines for data protection and responsible innovation.
Upskilling & continuous learning: ICAI is dedicated to developing capacity via training and skill development so that CAs stay competent in emerging areas such as AI, global standards, and sustainable reporting.
Supreme Court Reaffirms Fair Opportunity for CA:
A 25-year experience requirement has been eradicated by the recent judgment (20 Nov 2025) by the Supreme Court of India for appointment as a member of Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), unplugging doors for younger CAs to contribute.
ICAI Presents Pre-Budget Suggestions:
ICAI presented suggestions for prudent tax reforms sought at streamlining ease of doing business and encouraging environmental sustainability at the Pre-budget Meeting for Union Budget 2026-27 on 27th October, 2025, chaired by the Chairman, CBDT.
MoU with Indian Army for Real-time UDIN Verification:
An agreement has been signed by the ICAI with the procurement wing of the Indian Army for real-time verification of UDINs that enhances trust, transparency, and authenticity in financial documents.
Launch of Refresher Course on Standards on Auditing (SAs):
Launch of a refresher course on auditing standards (covering all 35 standards) to ensure consistent, high-quality audit practices.
Recognition for Skills Enrichment Programs and Online Yoga Sessions:
Through the Professional Skills Enrichment Committee (PSEC), ICAI organised skill enrichment programmes aimed at shaping future-ready professionals equipped to thrive in the evolving global landscape.
Vision for India’s growth and CA’s role: Since India positions itself as a global hub for finance/enterprise services (such as through Global Capability Centres), ICAI intends to equip CAs to lead the same evolution with global standards, strong ethics, tech-savviness, and strategic insight.
AFA meetings:
Recently, the 24th ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA) Conference and the 141st AFA Council in Hanoi were held. These events serve as vital platforms for thought leadership, collaboration, and innovation in the fast-evolving fields of finance and accounting. Before the AFA Council, a presentation on the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has been provided on the international stage in representing India’s interests, as well as highlighting ICAI initiatives of global significance. Strategies have been discussed to expand the presence and influence of Indian Chartered Accountants in Vietnam, to forge strategic alliances that would benefit both the Indian economy and the CA profession.
WOFA 2.0:
The 2022 World Congress of Accountants was the largest ever, bringing together over 10,000 professionals from more than 120 countries. This event marked a historic milestone for the accountancy profession in India. Since then, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has emerged as a global hub, with increasing expectations for Indian Chartered Accountants. The successful World Forum of Accountants (WOFA) in 2024, which featured leaders from 46 countries and 7,000 attendees, further demonstrated this confidence.
We are now on the verge of another landmark event:
WOFA 2.0, themed “Nation Building to Global Collaboration: Strengthening Trust, Enabling Growth.” This event goes beyond a traditional conference; it is a celebration of leadership, learning, and legacy. Professionals are invited from around the world to join us at this gathering as we explore new frontiers of knowledge, embrace innovation, and chart the course for global professional excellence.
Conclusion
As India moves toward becoming the world’s 3rd largest economy, our global engagement will rely on one defining factor, i.e., our people. Our talent and skills are no longer just inputs for progress; they are the very identity and reputation we project to the world. In this interconnected, tech-driven era that demands agility and innovation, this human capital becomes even more useful. The moment is ours to seize, and we look forward to partnering with the international accountancy community to harness these opportunities.
