CS indeed functions as a chief advisor to the board of directors in corporate matters. The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) is the major body which controls and regulates the company secretary in India and has around 50,000 members across India.

Company Secretary (CS) is a three-year professional course that provides students a training to manage the legal aspects of a firm including tax returns and record keeping. A CS ensures that all the operations in the company are going as per legal regulatory compliance and is engaged in the strategies of the company.

Q.1 – I want to get myself enrolled as a student for Company Secretary Course, how do I apply?

Ans: Visit the official website of the institute for registration. The link is https://www.icsi.in/student/Students/StudentRegistration.aspx

Q.2 – What is the minimum eligibility to register for a CS Foundation and the last date for registration?

Ans: Minimum eligibility for pursuing CS Foundation (the eight-months course) is passing 10+2 from any stream. Aspirants must apply for admission in the CS foundation program through the form given online by the institute. Students are allowed for temporary admission (before the 12th results are declared) for which the last date of registration is 31 March of a year so that they can appear for exams held in December in the same year. Admissions are open throughout the year.

Eligibility of a Foundation Programme:

A candidate is needed to qualify for their 10+2 exams if they wish to take admission to the foundation course under the Company Secretary (CS) scheme.

With a minimum of 50% aggregate marks, they must have completed the 12th grade from a recognized educational institute or equivalent.

Executive Programme Eligibility:

The applicant should have completed their class 10+2 in any discipline except fine arts from an acknowledged institution for the CS course at the Executive level.

They can sign up for the Executive Programme after passing the Foundation Programme.

Professional Programme Eligibility:

After the completion of the Executive Programme of the CS Course, only the Professional Programme can be pursued.

Candidates are eligible to continue to the Professional level who have already passed the Executive level.

Practical Training: Do hands-on training for 15 months.

Membership: After completing all the phases become an ICSI member.

Q.3 – Is it possible to directly register for the Executive Program? If yes then what is the minimum eligibility for the same?

Ans. To apply directly for CS Executive Program one must fulfill at least one of the below-given parameters:

  • The student has to be a graduate from any stream except Fine Arts or
  • Students who have cleared the CS Foundation or
  • Students who have passed CPT Exam from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).

Q.4 – What is the last date to register for CS Executive & Professional Training?

Ans: The last date to register for CS Executive & Professional course is 28 Feb (for all modules) and 31 May (for single module) exams for which will be held in December month of the same year or 31 Aug (for all modules) and 30 Nov (for single module) exams for which will be held in June month of next year. Else, admissions are open throughout the year.

Q.5 – I have completed the registration process online. When can I get my study material?

Ans: Aspirants who have applied online need to submit their documents using the ‘Manage Account’ option available in their respective accounts. Once the documents are verified by the institute the application will be approved and the study material will be available for the student within 10 – 12 days of approval from the institute.

Q.6 – What is the process of reviving the extra amount paid during the online registration process for the CS training course?

Ans: Following the online payment for the course, a receipt will be generated. In case if an excess amount is paid then you may send a letter to the Directorate of Student Services, Noida asking for a refund of excess amount paid to the institute.

Q.7 – Is there any flexibility in the fee structure for SC/ST, OBC students, Physically handicapped and Widows and Wards of Martyrs?

Ans: Students who belong to the SC/ST group or are the widows and wards of the Martyrs are accountable to give only 50% of the fees charged by the general category candidate. Concessions are granted by the institute on the basis of certificates submitted by the candidates. There is no concession in the fees for OBC candidates.

Physically Handicapped Students are eligible for concession in fees as per details given below:

Foundation Programme A student is liable for only Registration Fee (Currently the Registration Fee is Rs.1500)
Executive Programme A student is liable for only Registration Fee (Currently the Registration Fee is Rs.2000)
Professional Programme A student is liable for only Registration Fee (Currently the Registration Fee is NIL)

The concession on the fees is granted only if:

  • The students submit a certificate of disability issued by a Physician / Surgeon/ Oculist working in a State/Central Government to the effect of permanent physical disability (including blindness).
  • Permanent Disability means:-
  • (a) permanent physical disability of more than 50% in one limb; or
  • (b) permanent physical disability of more than 60% in two or more limbs; or
  • (c) permanent deafness with hearing impairment of 70 decibels and above; or
  • (d) permanent and total loss of voice.
    • Blindness is considered as a permanent physical disability only if it cannot be cured and falls under

      – 6/60 to 1/60 or field of vision 110-2

      Member Declaration Agreement Upload Status – Complete

      – 3/60 to 1/60 or field of vision 100

      – FC at 1 foot to Nil or field of vision 100

      – Total absence of sight

Q.8 – I have completed the process of registration online. When can I get my registration number and Is there any way I can check my registration status?

Q.9 – What is the average salary of a Company Secretary (CS) in India?

Q.10 – What to do if the status of my online registration is showing pending?

Ans: There could be multiple reasons for pending registration. Most probably it is because you have not submitted your completed documents or have some dues pending related to fees. The reason for pending status is intimated to the students via mails. Registration gets approved on fulfilling all the above criteria.

Q.11 – How can I get my registration letter/identity card?

Ans: Below is the step-wise guidance to obtain your registration letter/identity card online from institute’s website:

  • (i) Visit the website www.icsi.edu ➢ select ‘Online Services’ ➢ Select ‘Login’ option.
  • (ii) Enter your username /password
  • (iii)Select Student option
  • (iv)Open ‘My Account’
  • (v)Select ‘Others’ option visible at your account ➢ From here registration letter/Identity card can be downloaded.
  • (vi) Once the ‘Identity Card’ is downloaded, student needs to get it attested by one of the below authorities:
  1. Member of ICSI
  2. Gazetted Officer of State/ Central Government
  3. The principal of Recognised Schools/colleges
  4. Manager of Nationalised Bank
  5. Officers of the ICSI

Q.12 – I have registered for Foundation/Executive course on a provisional basis. What is the process to regularize my admission?

Ans: Students who are registered for CS Foundation or Executive course on provisional basis need to upload their 10+2 marksheet/certificate (for foundation) graduation marksheet/certificate (for Executive). Documents are required to be uploaded on www.icsi.edu within six months from the date of provisional registration otherwise the registration may get cancelled by board.

Q.13 – I registered my name under CS Foundation OR Executive but was not able to clear 10+2 Examination or got a back in my Final Year. Will my registration remain or cancel if I am not able to clear my exams within six months?

Ans: Registration will be canceled by the institute and the fee will be refunded back in the account of the student. Candidate can re-apply for training once he/she has successfully cleared 12th Exams or Final Year in respective cases.

Q.14 – Can a student change the elective subject?

Ans: Yes, there is a facility for student to change their elective subject before filling the examination form. One can visit the link https://www.icsi.edu/docs/Webmodules/UserManual_For_ElectiveSubject_Change.pdf to acknowledge the detailed procedure to change the elective subject.

Q.15 – When is it possible to apply for De-novo registration (renewal of registration)? For how much time is a De-novo registration valid?

Ans: One can apply for a de-novo registration (renewal of registration) once the five years are complete starting from the date of his previous registration. De-novo registration is applicable for a further five years.

Q.16 – How can I do so? Is it possible to change the exam center once my exam form is submitted? If yes then how?

Ans: Yes, there is a facility for student to change their elective subject before filling the examination form. One can visit the link https://www.icsi.edu/docs/Webmodules/UserManual_For_ElectiveSubject_Change.pdf to acknowledge the detailed procedure to change the elective subject.

Please Note: The request to change the exam center is not valid if the center is in the same city.

Q.17 – I haven’t got my registration number/Identity Card from the institute yet. What should I do?

Ans: Visit the institute’s student portal www.icsi.edu log into your account by entering your credentials.

One can download or take the print out of the Registration Card:

Go to Student ➢ My Account Others/Download Identity Card & Letter for Students (Registration Letter).

After Downloading the registration letter/identity card the student needs to get it attested by the Govt Gazetted Officer / ACS/FCS member of the Institute to make it valid.

If unattested, the card will not be considered valid.

Q.18 – I am registered as a student with icsi but I am not receiving the Student Company Secretary Bulletin on a regular basis? What should I do now?

Q.19 – I have passed after the process of Verification of Marks but the result is pending I have submitted the examination form. Is there a requirement to submit any other formal request for a refund of the examination fee?

Ans: Normally the refund of the exam fee is processed after the conclusion of the exams. If a student doesn’t receive his/her refund within 20-25 days from the conclusion of exams then he can mail to enroll@icsi.edu for record verification.
