ICAI Announces an Opt-out Option to the Aspirants of July Exams

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has announced that they will be providing an opt-out option for the students who have filled the application for May 2020 Chartered Accountancy (CA) examination. The students can now opt-out and carry-forward their registration for the next examinations to be held in November 2020. The option will be available to all the aspirants of the exams scheduled to be held from 29th July 2020.

The decision was taken by the institute as they received some requests from the students to postpone the exam because of the outbreak of coronavirus while others requested to conduct the exam in July as scheduled. The announcement was made in a notification issued by the institute that read, “The students (who have already submitted online examination application for May 2020 Examination cycle) shall be allowed to OPT-OUT and carry forward their candidature to next examination i.e. November 2020 examination cycle.

In this case, the examination fees and exemption, if any, of the particular student will automatically be shifted and carried forward to next examination i.e. November 2020 cycle and this attempt (May 2020) will be treated as cancelled / not counted.

The student will be required to apply afresh for November 2020 Examination cycle at the relevant time. His / Her Examination fees will be adjusted and differential fees, if any, will only be charged (In case he/she has filled the form for May 2020 exams for one group only and in November 2020 exams cycle, he/she opts to appear in both groups, then, he/she will be required to pay the differential fees).”

The institute will be making the required arrangements for smooth conduct of exams for the rest of the students. Proper precaution sand safety measure will be undertaken for the conduction of the exams. Thermal scanning, sanitation, social distancing, compulsion on wearing masks and other measures will be taken by the staff and the students for the exams.

The institute will monitor the situation of the outbreak in the first week of July and will send an intimidation to the students who have not chosen the opt-out option accordingly. The students who wish to change their examination centres can do so by visiting the website of ICAI http://icaiexam.icai.org from 17th June 2020 11 AM Onwards to 20th June 2020 11.59 PM.

The procedure for the opt-out facility will be as follows:

  1. Submit the declaration on the website form 17th June 2020 11 AM Onwards to 20th June 2020 11.59 PM.
  2. The registration of the student will be cancelled after the submission of the declaration for May 2020 and he/she will be shifted to the next examination cycle.
  3. Once the opt-out option is selected, it can not be reversed in any case.

As the ICAI has informed about holding exams in the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic situation.

The Information Systems Eligibility (ISA) Test has been postponed by the institute of chartered accountants of india. Earlier the scheduled test of ISA Eligibility Was fixed on 18th July 2020 which is now postponed due to COVID-19. The Revised notification will be told as soon as possible.
