ICAI President’s Message for June 2026
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has announced a series of significant initiatives focused on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), sustainability, digital transformation, and global professional collaboration. In his June 2026 message, ICAI President CA Prasanna Kumar D emphasized the critical role of entrepreneurs, MSMEs, and professionals in shaping India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation by 2047.
According to the ICAI President, India’s economic transformation is being powered by its growing entrepreneurial ecosystem. With nearly 80 million registered MSMEs across the country, the sector has emerged as a major contributor to employment generation, industrial growth, exports, and regional development. MSMEs currently provide employment to around 330 million people, making them the second-largest source of employment after agriculture.
MSMEs Contribute Significantly to India’s Economy
The MSME sector contributes nearly 35% of India’s manufacturing output, 49% of exports, and 31% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Beyond these numbers, the sector plays a vital role in poverty reduction, socio-economic empowerment, and inclusive development, particularly in rural and semi-urban regions.
CA Prasanna Kumar D noted that government initiatives and policy reforms have created a favourable environment for entrepreneurs to thrive. Programs such as Nivesh Mitra, MSME One Connect, and the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative are helping businesses access markets, streamline approvals, and improve competitiveness.
