A corrigendum has been issued by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ( ICAI ) to its 75th Annual Accounts following the discovery of a typographical error in the English version of the document posted in the Gazette of India dated September 27, 2024.

The same error is related to the date under the names of the auditors which was wrongly printed as 17th September 2023” rather than the correct date “17th September 2024.”

ICAI in an official statement released mentioned that the mistake appeared on pages 362 to 365 and page 389 of the English version of the Annual Accounts. “The date appearing beneath the names of the Auditors should read as 17th September 2024 instead of 17th September 2023. Necessary corrigendum is being published in the Official Gazette of India in this regard,” the statement quoted.

The annual accounts Hindi version is been shown precisely the date as “17th September 2024.” ICAI attributed the difference to a accidental error that emerged during sending the material for publication in the Gazette Notification. “While sending the matter for publication, this error of date in the English version has crept in inadvertently,” the Institute remarked as an ICAI Spokesperson promptly answered, “This is just a typo error in printing as if you see in the Hindi version it’s correct”.

CA. ( Dr. ) Jai Kumar Batra, Secretary of the ICAI, in the signed statement, declared that the Annual Accounts were signed through the Statutory Auditors dated September 17, 2024, and the right date was cited at the time of signing. “It is further clarified that the Annual Accounts of the Institute were signed by the Statutory Auditors on 17th September 2024 mentioning the same date there,” he commented.

To improve the mistake, ICAI is taking action by posting a corrigendum in the official Gazette of India. The same measure ensures that all the official records precisely show the true data, keeping the integrity and clarity anticipated from the higher accounting body.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is a statutory body founded by an Act of Parliament and is obligated to govern the profession of Chartered Accountancy in India. Over the past year, the Annual Accounts of the ICAI furnished a complete overview of the financial statements, activities, and achievements of the Institute.
